1. I decided to take this picture because it supports Jefferson's
statement. This is an image of a bus stop and in this image there is nothing
that says a certain ethnicity can't sit there or ride on the bus. I think that
this supports Jefferson's argument because it shows the progress we have made
in the world as time went on. It proves that people are given equal rights, the
rights that they deserve. Treating people equally helps demonstrate that no
matter where you live, the color of your skin or your social status we are all
created equally.
2. This is an image of an e-mail that was sent to me and I didn't
think it was abiding by Thomas Jefferson's statement. Yes we all have the
freedom of speech, but that doesn't mean we can downgrade others based on their
ethnicity. That is exactly what that women was doing, she was being racist towards
white people and blaming them for why she wasn't born in Africa. Racism is a
prime example of inequality, and that women’s display of racism was not
supporting the fact that we are all created equally.
Response:
I believe that we have come a long way.
We are gradually getting closer to fulfilling Jefferson's statement. There was
a time when certain ethnicities weren't treated equally, such as blacks and Jews.
As time went by, things changed and people were seen as equal in most places.
Everyone is free to shop where they please, people aren't being accused of
things they didn’t do just because of the color of their skin. Things continue
to change for the good, which is making the world a better place.
